Peter & friends donated an incredible £3100!
 |
Our long standing supporter Peter Browning organised another successful day of golf helping to raise awareness and funds for Scampps. Peter funded a luxurious day of golf for his friends at The Wisley Golf Club with a champagne breakfast, caddies, goody bags and lunch with drinks afterwards. Peter's nephew Josh who was the youngest player was presented with a trophy as winner of the great day out. Peter asked his friends to make donations to Scampps and then generously matched their donations to provide Scampps with a cheque for £3100.00. Well done Peter and we would like to thank you and your friends for your continued support.

Nick Ostrowski – Amsterdam Marathon – 18th October 2009
So far raised £416.28 and rising…
|
“On Friday 16th October I set off from London to Amsterdam with my school friends Alex and Ian who were also running the marathon with me. I had one knee heavily strapped up and so we celebrated our safe arrival with a kilo of pasta and some muesli bars. Saturday morning began with some scrambled pasta on toast and me steering Alex and Ian away from the Heineken brewery and towards the Olympic stadium where the marathon would start and finish the following day. After collecting our numbers we all adopted the lotus position and engaged in some visualisation and breathing exercises in the middle of the stadium. We spent Saturday night pretending the delights of Amsterdam didn't exist and eating another kilo of pasta and some jacket potatoes. We got up bright and early on Sunday morning and enjoyed some more pasta. This time in a bowl with milk. We got to the start in time and I stuck to my race plan for the first five miles before deciding that I was running too slowly and upping the pace. Around the half way point I realised that I had grossly overestimated my ability and spent the second half of the run in a private hell guarded by stewards in fluorescent jackets, fuelled by energy gel and lit by the fires of joint and muscular pain. After being overtaken by most of Amsterdam's pensioners over the last five miles I engaged in a vicious and petulant sprint with a girl half my age over the last 500 metres, which I lost. My finishing time was 3.35.29 and I was greeted by Alex and Ian who had finished hours earlier and who were tucking into their first post-race pasta. My brief post race euphoria slowly dissolved into a miasma of stiffness and I hobbled to the airport without even the sniff of a Grolsch or Heineken to ease the pain. Over the next week I alleviated the pain of my legs and knees by ruthlessly hounding all those who had promised to sponsor me but hadn't got round to it. It didn't really help my legs recover but I felt much better. Now, a week later, I finally don't have to walk down stairs backwards. Would I do it again? In an instant.”
Nick bravely ran the Amsterdam Marathon in support of his nephew, Matthew.

Diane Jumps for SCAMPPS
On 13th September 2009, Diane Swinton will be doing a parachute jump in conjunction with presenter Lisa Snowdon and London’s Capital Radio. This will involve a 10,000 feet freefall and is known as a ‘Tandem’ jump as Diane will fortunately be harnessed to a professional parachute jumper.
 |
Diane says "I must admit that I am scared but this is something I have always wanted to do". Diane will be raising money for Help a London Child and SCAMPPS. You can support Diane by visiting her page at www.justgiving.com/DianeSwinton

A Triathlon with a difference
In June 2010, Ben Laws, a paramedic from Middlesex, hopes to complete a Triathlon in aid of charity. But the grueling physical challenge will be made even harder as Ben aims to complete the 1.2mile swim, 56 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run by towing, pulling and pushing his toddler son Ewan ALL THE WAY!
We asked Ben why SCAMPPS was one of his chosen charities for this event.
|
“SCAMPPS was seen as a valuable charity in our local area, a charity that I’m sure we will call upon in the future, one we know people will have had great help from and one that isn’t that widely known outside of JOG.” Last year, Ben’s son Ewan was born 3 months prematurely and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and it is his little boy’s determination which has inspired him to take on this enormous challenge. Ben is fortunate to have the expertise of leading Triathlon Coach Rick Kiddle and Peak Performance Trainer Darren Roberts for support. Probus
A huge thank you to the gentlemen of Mole Valley Probus who raised £500 through their monthly lunch raffles. We would like to especially thank Bill Longstreeth, who has previously supported SCAMPPS with his fundraising, for nominating us as their charity. Rachel Mcauley was lucky enough to be invited to their June lunch and receive their generous cheque from their chairman. She also had the opportunity to say a few words about SCAMPPS and explain how we might use the money.

Parachute Jump
Despite his fears (very understandable), Stuart Adams raised £400 doing a parachute jump. Thank you for your determination and bravery Stuart, we understand the jump was cancelled twice due to bad weather!
Lunch
The staff at St Joseph School raised £83.60 through their staff lunch.
Tennis Tournament
A small tennis tournament held on 13th September at David Lloyd’s, Raynes Park, managed to raise over £1,115 for SCAMPPS. Selina, George and Harry were joined by friends and their families who generously sponsored the 12 tennis players. It was a great opportunity to catch up with ‘old’ friends across the net and over a drink and nibbles afterwards!
|
Sam & Paul, Andrew and Conor were there, together with their parents and siblings, to cheer on the players and present the prizes. Selina and George would like to thank Charles Jude, General Manager of the Club, for allowing them to use the courts to raise funds for SCAMPPS. They would also like to express their sincere appreciation of those who played and financially supported the venture.

Epsom College Pavillion Club
| The Epsom College Pavilion Club, which meets every Monday afternoon during term-time, voted this year to split its subs equally between two charities that mean most to its members: SCAMPPS and the British Heart Foundation. The club was formed two years ago to cater for the ever increasing numbers of very young children in the College community. The children really look forward to playing together every week and the mums (and occasionally dads) get a welcome chance to share news too. The College’s cricket pavilion is provided free of charge for the weekly get-togethers on the understanding that the families who benefit make an annual donation to a charity of their choice. Thank you for the £100 raised for SCAMPPS. |

Ethan's Rotary Ramble
I did a sponsored ramble for SCAMPPS and the Rotary club. I walked 5 kilometres across Epsom Downs. I raised £39.75 for SCAMPPS and £13.25 for the Rotary clubs charity.
It was outstanding fun. I ran most of the way with school friends. We had to run because my friends dog was MAD!! MY Mum and my teacher constantly moaned like my sister when she has her nappy changed.
I plan to do it next year because it was a work out and I helped the charity.
SCAMPPS sponsored stroll
A big thank you to The Nursery at St Joseph’s for organising the first Sponsored SCAMPPS Stroll. All of the children at the nursery strolled around the entire grounds of St Joseph’s Primary school, Epsom. Despite the unseasonal weather on some of the days attempted, the children all enjoyed themselves. The children raised £378 through sponsors for SCAMPPS so a huge thank you must go to all of their friends and family who supported them.
We are hoping that many more nurseries and schools will take up our SCAMPPS Stroll challenge next summer to help raise awareness and funds for SCAMPPS. If you are interested in your child’s nursery or school taking part please contact us to order a sponsored stroll pack.
Lucky Dip
 |
Billy's sister Megan and her friends from school ran a stall at their open evening. They had a lucky dip, held a guess the name of the teddy competition and sold milkshakes, chocolate brownies, rice crispie cakes, notebooks and hand painted mugs. Together they raised a profit of £53. 29 for SCAMPPS. Well done and thank you! |
Sponsored Slim
Bill Radford the butcher in Stoneleigh Broadway and Jane Mallet raised a staggering £1,120 for us by loosing weight. Their target was to loose 3 stone! Congratulations to them on their huge efforts.
